A while back I put out a call for support in finding a suitable vehicle for this trip, and offered a temporary trade for modest pickup truck. My criteria were fairly simple and broad: reasonable mileage, something to sleep comfortably in, and with a carriage high enough off the ground to make it over some semi-rough terrain.
My friend KC came in with the best option and yesterday evening over beers we exchanged keys. I'll be making the trip in a Subaru Outback, a completely suitable and enjoyable car for the trip. Hands down it beats my last roundtrip, cross country sojourn in my little Tacoma. Because of seasonal low temperatures and significant sleep on the road, my cramped or outdoor quarters needed an upgrade. And with this Outback, an upgrade I've gotten. Thank you KC – I'm deeply grateful for your generosity, friendship and faith in the merits of this effort. Onward! And enjoy the pick up too.
